Welcome to my Gloucester Rowing Club Site
Gloucester Rowing club is one of the oldest rowing clubs in Britain. It holds regular regattas, including nationals, regionals and in club events. You can learn to row at Gloucester in school year 7 and above (aged 11). Rowing is great fun and also one of the most energetic sports. Many famous boat races take place through the year. Most famousily is the Oxford Cambridge Boat Race. You can row in Quads (x4), Doubles (x2), Singles (x1), or eights. These can either be coxed, or un-coxed. A cox's job is to steer the boat and shout orders to the squad. A cox is like a team captain. At Gloucester, they hold 2 types of beginner classes - wet start, and dry start. Dry Start is where you learn to row on a rowing machine. This ensures a best possible technique is learned. Wet Start is where you go out on the water from day 1. This is a huge confidence builder and is more realistic than rowing machines.
